Gerald E. ‘Jerry’ Fields

INDIANAPOLIS

Gerald E. “Jerry” Fields, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 20, 1940, in Indianapolis, to James E. and Rosemary (Fritch) Fields.

He married Sharon L. (Schmaltz) Fields on Sept. 30, 1961, in Indianapolis; she survives.

He attended Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis. He worked for Allison Transmission division of General Motors in Indianapolis for 23 years, retiring in 1988, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union local.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon L. (Schmaltz) Fields of Indianapolis; three children, Todd Fields (Angie) of Indianapolis, Sandy Koons (Jerry) of Greenwood and Marsha Wood (Andy) of Nineveh; a brother, Charles Fields (Kim) of Galveston; eight grandchildren, Kandice, Terra, Eli, Paige, Eric, Tiffney, Kayla and Robyn; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Austin, Abby, Ally, Dayton, Kiera, Jake, Luke, Rylee, J.J. and Holden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Rosemary (Fritch) Fields; a brother, Timothy Fields; and a sister, Janet (Fields) Frye.

The Rev. Danny McAdams will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Monday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the mortuary.
