County agency seeks storm damage reports

If your home or property was damaged in storms recently, the county wants to know.

Johnson County Emergency Management is asking anyone with structural damage from wind, limbs that have fallen or flooding to report it to its office. Damage can be reported by calling 736-9064.

The state is working on a possible emergency declaration from the storms that began July 12, when a tornado hit Prince’s Lakes, and continued through July 18, when streets and homes flooded, county emergency management director Stephanie Sichting said.

In order to get that declaration, the state needs a certain level of damage and has not met that amount yet, she said.

The county doesn’t want to miss anyone who has structural damage to their home or other buildings on their property from the recent storms, so property owners are asked to report it. Even if residents are already working with their insurance company, the county also needs to know about the damage, Sichting said.
