MainSource plans regional office in Greenwood

A regional office for MainSource Financial Group is coming to Greenwood by the end of the year.

Forty MainSource employees will move into an office building at 1530 American Way by the end of the year, President and CEO Archie Brown said. The building houses Tilson HR, but MainSource will move into the ground level.

Initially, MainSource will renovate and use 11,000 square feet but eventually will expand on the ground floor. Eventually, MainSource wants to have about 100 employees in the Greenwood location during the next several years, Brown said.

The regional office will have a call center, a technology department, a lending office and office space, Brown said. While the call center will have the traditional cubicles for workers to talk with customers who call if there are any issues with their banking account or website login information, a percentage of the call center employees also will act as bank tellers through webcam.

Instead of the standard ATM machine, some MainSource bank locations feature a virtual teller, where people can drive up to a machine but then interact with someone through video at the call center.

As technology evolves, MainSource plans to add technology-based positions to accommodate any new tools or machines the company introduces, Brown said.

The financial group’s corporate headquarters is in Greensburg, which also houses the company’s main call center, but the call center and IT support in Greenwood can assist them if too many calls come in at once or if one of the branches loses power.

The Greenwood location may add a mortgage office in the future, since that is one area where MainSource is seeing growth within the business, Brown said. Salaries will range anywhere from $30,000 to nearly $100,000, Brown said. No job will be entry-level, but not every position will require a college degree, Brown said.

Having MainSource open a regional office in Greenwood will provide high-paying careers for residents, Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers said. Greenwood has been looking to find companies with more technology-based careers to move into the city, so MainSource is a good partner, he said.

Most of MainSource’s previous expansions have been along the Interstate 65 corridor, Brown said. The proximity of I-65 and Indianapolis made Greenwood an ideal location, Brown said. Employees could live in Indianapolis and commute to Greenwood, Brown said.

Multiple banking locations have recently been opened in Bargersville, Franklin, Shelbyville and five branches in Bartholomew County, so Greenwood serves as a centralized location for support, Brown said.

Interior renovations on their office space has not started, Brown said. Medtech College currently has its Greenwood campus in the ground level of 1530 American Way but will be moving to another campus, Myers said.

The company operates 81 banking offices in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio.
