SWAT team called to Greenwood residence

A SWAT team was called to a Greenwood home after a woman refused to answer her front door when officers were trying to serve a warrant to arrest someone else.

Officers with the Greenwood Police Department went to a house in the 1400 block of Royal Reserve Way to find Kentucky resident Dustin Hicks, 30, who was wanted on a warrant for drug charges in Kentucky.

Police got a tip that Hicks was in Greenwood and staying with a woman in the Reserve at Royal Oaks, located off State Road 135, north of Olive Branch Road, Greenwood Police Department spokeswoman Kortney Burrello said.

When officers knocked on the door, a woman refused to answer. Officers saw someone moving around in the house, so they knew someone was there, Burrello said.

The SWAT team was called in, and hostage negotiators contacted the woman inside. She eventually opened the door and walked outside. Hicks was not there. Officers do not know where Hicks went, Burrello said.

The woman’s name was not released, and she was not arrested.
