Indy man arrested after traffic stop

An Indianapolis man was arrested after a pursuit with police in Franklin.

Marvin Williams, 24, 7821 Brookfield Court, Apt. 53, was arrested on charges of auto theft, driving with a suspended license, carrying a handgun without a permit, possession of marijuana, failure to return to lawful detention, violation of community corrections, resisting law enforcement and possession of synthetic drug or lookalike substance. He also was wanted on two warrants in Johnson County.

An officer stopped a vehicle in Franklin on Wednesday night. The officer saw the vehicle at U.S. 31 and Main Street and found the vehicle was reported stolen. The driver tried to get around other vehicles to get away but was unable to, according to the police report.

The driver got out of the car and ran into Franklin Place Apartments. Residents told police where they saw the man running, the report said. Police said the man threw a gun on the ground while he was running.

Williams was arrested. During a search, officers found bullets and a prescription pill in his pockets, the report said.

Williams was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $10,200 bond.

A 16-year-old passenger in the car was arrested on a charge of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and was taken to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center.
