Greenwood company plans expansion, warehouse to rent

Two new warehouse buildings are being constructed in Greenwood.

Kleis Construction plans to add on to its current location off Polk Street, where the company has been located for more than 30 years.

The expansion includes two warehouses with office space on about 1.4 acres between Smith Valley Road and Main Street, next to Kleis’ current location.

Each building will feature 980 square feet of office space facing Polk Street and a 3,000-square-foot warehouse in the rear.

One of the new buildings will be used by Kleis, and the other will be available for rent by a company or contractor with a need for office and storage space. Kleis does not have a tenant for the second building, Greenwood Planning Director Bill Peeples said.

Kleis Construction declined to comment.

The new buildings could be complete by November, according to construction plans. The project needs final approval from the city after working out an access plan for nearby cellphone towers.
