Condition upgraded for man wounded in shooting

A man shot by Johnson County sheriff’s deputies last week is improving.

Daryll K. Hedges, 31, was listed in good condition on Monday at Methodist Hospital at Indiana University Health, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Hedges was shot by two sheriff’s deputies at a southside park last week. When he was taken to the hospital, he was in critical condition.

Indianapolis police are investigating the shooting, and have said Hedges charged at the deputies before they fired.

Police had been looking for Hedges after a woman said she had broken up with him, he was distraught and was sending her text messages that he would harm himself and he had access to weapons. They found him at Glenns Valley Nature Park off Bluff Road, where police said a standoff began between Hedges and the officers.
