Laurie Denise Alvey, 53, of Franklin, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She had been battling metastatic kidney cancer for the past seven months.

She was born Jan. 27, 1962, in Columbus, to Thomas Bormes and Sharon Ann (Miller) Bormes. She was a resident of Franklin for 52 years.

She married Jeffrey L. Alvey, on Feb. 2, 1979, in Franklin.

She was a graduate of Franklin Community High School and worked for Carlton Lodge, Franklin school system’s A.C.E. after-school program and Kroger in Franklin.

She loved cooking, baking, painting, doing crafts, gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey L. Alvey of Franklin; two daughters, Rachel L. Alvey (John) Pettygrove of Franklin and Loren N. Alvey of Greenwood; two sons, Cory M. (Amanda) Alvey and Caleb M. Alvey of Franklin; four granddaughters, Katelynn, Ava, Maddie and Jessie Alvey of Franklin; and two grandsons, Tristen Smith and Hunter Alvey of Franklin.

She also is survived by her father, Thomas Bormes of Printer, Kentucky; three sisters, Michele Spencer and Saundra Bordenkecker, both of Franklin, and Lisa Crum of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; three brothers, Tony Bormes of Rogersville, Tennessee, Alan Bormes of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Chris Bormes of Maytown, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, 951 N. Main St., Franklin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Laurie will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
