Mildred I. (Handy) Bauman

FRANKLIN

Mildred I. (Handy) Bauman went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 2, 2015.

Born Jan. 28, 1915, she was the daughter of the late George E. Handy and Katie A. (Riggs) Handy.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Bauman, and siblings, Ester (Laurence) Owens, Ella Mae Handy and Wayne (Margaret) Handy.

She is survived by sons, George (Vicky) Bauman of Franklin and David (Karen) Bauman of Edinburgh; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was born in Needham and was a lifelong resident of Johnson County. She was a 1933 graduate of Franklin High School. Living through the depression had a lasting impact on her life. She worked for several years at the former Varynit Mills as a payroll clerk before becoming a housewife. She and Morris were married Nov. 27, 1947. One of her great joys was raising a large garden. In later years, she enjoyed quilting and volunteering at the Indiana Masonic Home Health Center. She had been a resident of the Indiana Masonic Home since 2003. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and the grace she showed in accepting whatever life had to offer.

Mildred’s memberships included Union Christian Church and its’ Christian Women’s Fellowship group for 78 years and Nineveh Order of Eastern Star for approximately 65 years. She was active in these organizations as long as she was able.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh with a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. W. Allen Whitehurst followed by a graveside service at the Nineveh Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mildred’s wish that memorials be given to Union Christian Church Memorial Fund at 1331 E. County Road 300S, Franklin, IN 46131 or Indiana Masonic Home at 690 S. State St., Franklin, IN 46131.
