Ruth Marie Richardson

Ruth Marie (Pfleger) Richardson, 93, of Indianapolis, was called home to Our Lord on Monday, June 1, 2015.

She was born March 23, 1922, to Carl J. Pfleger and Mildred P. (Habig) Pfleger and had two sisters, Mary J. (Charles) Keenan and Joann (Ben) Walker. Joann survives.

Ruth lived all but the last few years of her life at the family property on South Meridian Street in Indianapolis.

She attended Sacred Heart Central High School, where she met the love of her life, Harry T. Richardson, whom she married on Nov. 10, 1944. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1994. They were married 49 years and had six children.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother and could often be seen volunteering at church, attending kickball games, baseball games and school events and carpooling her children to numerous activities.

She also was devoted to her beloved St. Roch Church, where she attended faithfully. She was the organist at St. Roch for more than 35 years and was a past member of the St. Roch Altar Society and the Happy Chatters Homemakers Club, where she shared many good times with some of her dearest friends.

Ruth will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and her selfless efforts to care for her family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her children, Patty (Richard) Eck, Bill (Karla) Richardson, Sue (Ken) Steeb, Hank (Cindy) Richardson, Mary Jo (Steve) Fox and Jim Richardson; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Roch Catholic Church, 3600 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Indianapolis. Friends may gather from 3 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., Indianapolis. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; and morning prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
