Motorcycle ride to benefit Franklin Strong scholarship fund

In memory of two Franklin students who drowned while trying to rescue a friend, supporters of the Franklin Strong scholarship fund will gather Saturday for a benefit motorcycle ride.

The ride will depart from Time Out Bar and Grill, 1000 Hurricane St., Franklin. Registration for the ride will be from 11 to 11:45 a.m., with kickstands up at noon.

Cost is $20 per rider, and $10 for each passenger. Each registered motorcycle will receive a T-shirt.

The event will remember Jason Moran and Michael Chadbourne. The two Franklin Community High School students were swimming near a dam in Edinburgh when one of their friends was sucked under with the current. They died trying to save her.

Saturday’s benefit ride will follow a route to Edinburgh. Riders will pause for a moment of silence on the bridge near the dam where the teens died.

Following the ride, participants will meet at Time Out for lunch, raffles and drawings. Participants can register for a bean bag toss tournament for $10 per person, with half of the money going to the scholarship fund.

Entertainment will be provided by Trigger Happy from 1 to 3 p.m. and Southern Reserve from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 736-9400.
