Authorities say Indianapolis man arrested after road rage incident

An Indianapolis man was arrested Wednesday after a motorist reported he waved a gun at him.

Dustin Earl Hicks, 28, was arrested on charges of criminal recklessness and carrying an unlawful handgun.

Hicks and a friend were both riding motorcycles along U.S. 31 north of Taylorsville on Wednesday afternoon and traffic was backing up behind them. Another motorist told police he was in the right lane and passed the two men. He told police the two motorcyclists then followed him and his wife, with Hicks pulling up his shirt to show a handgun on his hip. When Hicks removed the gun from its holster, the other motorist called 911 and sped up to get away, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

When Johnson County deputies caught up to Hicks in Franklin, he said he was not carrying a handgun. Minutes later, a gun was found in a nearby tree, the report said.

Hicks was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $2,200 bond.
