Local woman named to state education board

A Greenwood resident has been appointed to the state board of education.

Lee Ann Kwiatkowski, who works as assistant superintendent for school improvement at Warren Township schools in Indianapolis, will serve through June 30, 2016. She will represent the 9th Congressional District, which includes Johnson County.

Gov. Mike Pence made three new appointments and five reappointments after legislation reorganized the state board.

The board will have a total of 11 members, with eight appointed by the governor, two legislative appointments and the state superintendent of public instruction.

Kwiatkowski previously worked at the Indiana Department of Education, including as director of school turnaround, director of differentiated learning and director of the Title I program.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, master’s degrees from Indiana University, her educational specialist degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and is pursuing a doctorate in education from Oakland City University.
