Jerry Whitlock

Jerry A. Whitlock, 73, Greenwood, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015.

He was born Sept. 15, 1941, in Indianapolis to the late Adolph and Florence (Mills) Whitlock. He was a 1958 graduate of Southport High School and obtained his master’s degree in education from Indiana University.

Mr. Whitlock taught 39 years and retired from Decatur Township Middle School. Throughout his tenure, he taught many students in P.E., health and driver’s education and coached football, baseball and wrestling. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf and going to the casino. His true joy came from his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Bonnie J. Whitlock; children, Scott (Barb) Whitlock, Tammy (Kevin) VanDeventer and Andrea Munn; seven grandchildren, Damon Munn, Britton Whitlock, Mercedes Whetstine, Dylan Munn, Kierston Whitlock, Nathaniel Whetstine and Gehrig Whitlock; three stepgrandchildren, Curtis (Jessica)VanDeventer, Brett VanDeventer and Chloe Scott; one great-stepgrandson, Grant VanDeventer; a brother, Mark Thomas (Janey) Whitlock; and his mother-in-law, Alice Birt.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery and Mausoleum Park in Greenwood.
