Police: Woman choked, punched her husband

An Edinburgh woman was arrested after her husband told police their son was missing for a brief time and the two had fought.

Ashley Dickens, 29, 602 E. Thompson St., was arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent, domestic battery, strangulation and confinement.

On Tuesday, Dickens’ husband returned home from work and found her on the couch and tried to wake her up. He told police that once she woke up she was intoxicated and disoriented and didn’t know where her 8-year-old son was. Neither one knew where he was, and the son was not in the house, according to the police report.

After searching the neighborhood, the husband found the boy at a friend’s house. The husband had cuts and bruises on his face and neck when he made the report to the Edinburgh Police Department.

While strangulation means the act of killing by squeezing the throat, Indiana law defines it as intentionally applying pressure to another person’s throat or obstructing their nose or mouth.

Dickens was being held in the Johnson County jail on $4,800 bond.
