Prepare for a berry good time

It’s strawberry shortcake time in Franklin.

Memorial Day weekend opens with tradition on Friday during the Strawberries on the Square festival, starting at 11 a.m.

Volunteers will serve cake, ice cream, fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a bottle of water for $5 on the courthouse lawn.

The festival will include the Lions Club Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the parking lot at Water and Monroe streets.

Evening activities include a classic car cruise-in on North Main Street, kids activities, live music, and the movie “The Muppet Movie” at the Artcraft Theatre at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Live music will play throughout the day with the last musical performance from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. The annual garage sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the parking lot on North Main Street across from the Historic Artcraft Theatre.
