Mildred A. (Gullett) Hixson

FRANKLIN

Mildred A. (Gullett) Hixson, 85, of the Franklin United Methodist Community, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

She was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Camden, Tennessee, to Joseph Lawrence Gullett and Ophelia (Melton) Gullett.

She married James E. Hixson on June 4, 1949, in Paris, Tennessee. He preceded her in death June 22, 2012.

She was a graduate of Camden High School and a beauty college graduate.

She was a member of Community Congregational Church in Franklin, where she was a member of the church women’s guild. There, she also served as a Sunday school teacher, a deaconess of the church and at the builders Sunday school class.

She had been involved in 4-H, extension homemakers and the Franklin Girls Club.

She had been a beautician for many years at Mildred Beauty Cottage in Greenwood.

Survivors include her son, David James Hixson, daughters, Charlotte Ruth Bowen (David, deceased) of Lafayette, Virginia Ann “Ginger” Kahl (Vern) of Franklin and Karen Mengle (Rev) of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Angela Potter (Bill, deceased) of Lafayette, Kyle Bowen (Kelli) of State College, Pennsylvania, Josh Mengle and Austin Mengle, both of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, Fletcher Bowen, Palmer Bowen, Hamilton Potter and Sinclair Potter; and one sister, Betty Jean Lindsey of Camden, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter-in-law, Angela Narvel Hixson; two brothers, Joe Gullett and John Gullett, and sisters, Mabel Gullett Reesey, Pearl Gullett Gann, Blanche Gullett Hollingsworth, Marie Gullett Cochran, Ethel Gullett Bell and Ruth Gullett Poe.

The Rev. Dan McLaughlin will conduct a service at 3 p.m. Saturday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the service time Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Hurricane Cemetery in Franklin.
