Richard Eugene ‘Rick’ Ohns

Richard Eugene “Rick” Ohns, 68, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015. He was a resident of Nineveh.

He was born July 15, 1946, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of the late James William Ohns Sr. and Freda Mae (Clark) Ohns. Rick married Sharon K. (Chaffin) Ohns on Aug. 13, 1966. She resides in Nineveh.

He also is survived by two daughters, Dawn Michelle Ohns of Franklin and Kristi Lynn (Andy) Bayliss of Franklin; one grandson, Drew Bayliss of Franklin; one sister, Patricia Ann Kline of West Liberty, Ohio, and one brother, James William Ohns, Jr. of Springfield, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

Rick was a 1965 graduate of Springfield North High School in Springfield, Ohio. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1965 to 1969. Rick served on the USS Bennington during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars as well as the National Defense Service Medal.

Rick retired from 7-Up Bottling Company in 2008 after more than 20 years of service.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed baseball and watching Indiana University basketball.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, where military honors will be conducted.
