Franklin man arrested in molestation case

A Franklin man has been charged with child molesting after a girl told her mother a man touched her inappropriately, police said.

Robert Mains, 23, faces a Level 1 felony charge of child molesting, the most severe type of felony charge after murder. If convicted, he could face 20 to 50 years in prison.

The incidents involved a a girl younger than 14.

Mains went to the Franklin Police Department on April 26 and told police that he had inappropriately touched a teenage girl, according to a police report. The girl had told her mother about incidents with a man she identified as Mains, and the mother confronted him about it.

The first incident occurred about two months ago at Mains’ home at 695 Johnson Ave. Mains told police he touched the girl and performed sex acts on her, according to the police report.

The teen also told police that Mains touched her a few days later and kissed her on the mouth, the report said.

Mains was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $92,000 bond.
