Samuel R. ‘Sam’ Stogdill

FRANKLIN

Samuel R. “Sam” Stogdill, 72, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Scott County.

Sam was born June 6, 1942, in Bedford, to the late Otto and Beulah (Wotton) Stogdill.

For 22 years, he enjoyed living in a group home operated by Tom and Joyce Susnick of Scott County.

Sam will be remembered for always being there to lend a hand. He enjoyed the outdoors by working in the yard, stacking wood, pulling weeds and playing basketball. Sam also enjoyed caring for the farm animals and his pet squirrel “Sammy.”

He is survived by his siblings, Betty (Everett) Reynolds of Greenfield, Joe Stogdill of Greenwood, and Lu Ella Stogdill and Sarah (Donald) Mullins, both of Bloomington; caregiver and niece, Teresa Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by 10 siblings, Thelma Strunk, Norma Nash, Mary Long, and Robert, Walter, Warren, William, David, James “Bud” and Lloyd Kenneth Stogdill.

The Rev. Tony Schommer will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Monday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery.
