Betty Ann (Hurdle) Hamilton, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at her home in Morgantown.

She was born in Helmsburg on Oct. 20, 1929, to Warren F. Hurdle and Olive Wilma (Young) Hurdle.

Betty Ann married the love of her life, her beloved husband, Leonard Gene Hamilton on Sept. 30, 1950 in Jeffersonville. The Rev. Albert Nehr, a former minister at the First Baptist Church in Morgantown, performed the ceremony. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon trip to the Smoky Mountains.

Betty Ann cherished the time spent with her family, whom she loved dearly. She lovingly cared for her husband, Gene, during his long illness. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2005, after 54 loving years of marriage.

Betty Ann graduated at the top of her class with honors, in 1947 from Morgantown High School.

She won two scholarships at the time of her graduation: one from the Morgantown Lions Club, and the other from the Kappa Sigma sorority chapter of Morgantown.

After graduation, Betty Ann went to work at the Indiana Employment Security Division in Indianapolis as a clerk typist. Later she was employed at the Morgan County Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aid.

Betty Ann also worked at her father’s business: Warren Hurdle’s Insurance & Real Estate Agency in Morgantown. She worked as an assistant with Jackson Township Trustee Robert Owens, and later she worked as a waitress for her aunt, Cornelia Lonyo, in her restaurant in Morgantown.

After her husband’s passing, Betty Ann worked as a sales clerk for her daughter at the Olde Drug Store Antique Mall in Morgantown.

Betty Ann was a 74-year member of the Morgantown First Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her pastor and his wife, and her many friends at church. Betty Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working in her flower garden, crocheting and doing crafts. Most of all, she loved her family.

Betty Ann’s survivors are daughter, Debra Jean and her husband Brian K., Walters of Martinsville, son, Kenneth Warren Hamilton and his companion, Debra Ream of Morgantown; grandchildren, Sheldon G. (Ashley) Hamilton of Morgantown, Corey L. (Olivia) Hamilton of Martinsville, Kendsey E. (Phillip) Hamilton Baker of Morgantown; stepgrandchildren, Kurtis and Brett Walters of Salem; great-grandchildren, Landon G. Hamilton, Bentley L. Baker and Saige E. Baker; step-great-grandchildren, Brook, Alexis, Dylan, Braden, Harley, Malayna and Jameson Walters; and cousin, Judy Baughman of Brown County.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Gene Hamilton; parents, Warren and Olive Hurdle; baby brother, Bobby C. Hurdle; grandparents, William and Stella (Everling) Hurdle and Edgar and Bessie (Poling) Young; special cousins, Wilma Walker Winberg, Norman D. Young and Lennis Baughman; and several aunts and uncles.

The Revs. Ben Swopes and Lee Snider will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
