Jerry Robinette

Jerry L. Robinette, 75, passed away Friday evening, April 24, 2015, at the IU Bloomington Hospice House. He was a resident of Shoals and a former resident of Trafalgar.

Jerry was born in Greenwood on April 19, 1940, to his parents, the late Edgar M. and Flora Bell (Lindsey) Robinette. He attended school in Nineveh and went on to serve as a Private First Class with the United States Army in Baumholder, Germany, from 1962 to 1965.

He married Jane (DeBoor) Robinette in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on May 20, 1995. She lovingly survives after 19 years of marriage.

Jerry is also survived by his children, Tim (Rhonda) Robinette of Otwell, and Kelly (Doug) Warner of Franklin; stepchildren, Jeanette Vandagrifft of Nineveh, Saundra (Jim) Rucker of Indianapolis, and Richard (Anita) Vandagrifft of Orleans; brother, Ed Robinette of Phoenix; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Calvin Robinette; and a great granddaughter, Haley Cloud.

Jerry retired in 2002 as the owner and operator for Swift Trucking in Shoals after seven years of service. Previous employment included Gaile’s Gas and Electric in Morgantown as a mechanic and truck driver from 1986 to 1995; owner and operator of Robinette and Sons Trucking from 1979 to 1986; truck driver for Sodrel Trucking in Indianapolis from 1975 to 1978; and worked as the plant manager of the Red Gold Canning Factory in Trafalgar from 1956 to 1975. He also worked as a farmer in Johnson County for more than 30 years.

He attended the Orleans Christian Church and was a member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing, traveling, spending time with his family and competing in tractor pulls. Jerry was a fan of antique farm machinery and reading and learning about steam engine locomotives.

The Rev. Tom Bostic will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood with military rites presented by the Greenwood Honor Guard.
