Chester Lee ‘Chet’ Goins

GREENWOOD

Chester Lee “Chet” Goins passed away peacefully Saturday, April 4, 2015. He was a resident of Greenwood.

Chet was born in Baltimore on July 5, 1926, to Gladys and Archie Goins.

He joins his cherished wife of more than 52 years, Patricia June Grow Goins; son-in-law Bill Myers; and grandchildren Kylee Lynn Myers, Andy Goins and Barbara Goins — in heaven.

Chet served his beloved country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Barry. He grew up on the southside of Indianapolis and attended Arsenal Technical High School.

A self-made man, Chet began his career parking cars and repairing jukeboxes and then went into partnership to purchase his first car lot business in 1949.

He grew his car lot businesses and, together with Pat, opened Auto Dealers Exchange in July 1979, which continues to prosper today.

A natural-born leader whose dry wit encouraged a healthy atmosphere, Chet enjoyed providing opportunities for friends, family and employees to succeed. His consistent adherence to the practices of responsibility, honesty, good work and fair dealings earned him a sound reputation of integrity.

Chet’s contributions have left the south and east sides of Indianapolis a little better than when he found them. His first love lay with his family, to whom he was fiercely devoted.

Chet leaves the legacy of a grateful and adoring family. He is survived by children, Kathleen Linn Myers, Karen Leann (Walt) Ryan and Terry Lee (Marcia) Goins. Chet is deeply missed by his grandchildren, Kyler Lee, Kassidy Kristine and Kameron Joseph Myers, Amber Wade, Jake and Beau Ryan, Melissa Goins, Matt (Megan) and Becky Goins, and Sarah (Roger) Daupert. Also remembering Chet are his great-grandchildren, Mercedes Love, Eathan Daupert and Drew, Will, Dirk, Jack and Zeke Goins; and a legion of friends too many in number to list.

All funeral services will be at G.H. Greenwood Herrmann Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday. Entombment will be at the Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery in Greenwood.

The family welcomes donations in Chet’s name made to Cornea Research Foundation of America, 9002 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46240; www.cornea.org.
