Letter: Senate bill fuels bigotry, intolerance

To the editor:

Supporters say Senate Bill 101 will add legal protections for people with strong religious beliefs. I say the bill will add fuel to the bigotry and intolerance that simmers just below the surface among certain groups of people in the Hoosier state.

It is difficult for me to believe that the bigotry and intolerance that are so widespread in Indiana have not infected the GOP legislators who are supporting such an obviously divisive bill. That is a hard knock, but one that has to be faced. After all, why should we expect the attitudes and beliefs of legislators to be any different than that segment of society that elected and supports them?

Senate Bill 101 is a hate bill, pure and simple, and the only way to fix it is to repeal it immediately.
