Brief domestic battery between boyfriend, girlfriend

An Edinburgh couple was arrested after a fight in their home.

Micky Harper, 38, and April Hakes, 36, both of 306 S. Pleasant St., were both arrested on a charge of domestic battery. Harper was also arrested on charges of intimidation, disorderly conduct and criminal confinement.

Edinburgh police came to the couple’s home at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday after Hakes called 911 and said Harper put a knife to her neck and threatened to cut her throat. She told police Harper also punched her in the forehead before putting the knife to her throat, according to the police report.

Hakes told police Harper had punched himself in the face, breaking his nose. But Harper told police that Hakes punched him in the face and head, the report said.

Officers threatened to use a Taser on Harper, who refused to cooperate with police when they attempted to handcuff him, the report said.

Both were taken to the Johnson County jail, where Hakes was held on $1,000 bond and Harper was held on $42,600 bond.
