Singing group named national champion

A local women’s show choir has won a national championship.

The Debtones of Center Grove High School were named grand champion at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Choirs from 19 schools, representing nine states, competed.

The Debtones also sang and danced their way to earn caption awards in outstanding visual, outstanding stage crew and outstanding vocals. They finished their season undefeated, according to a news release.

Sophomore Adrianna Goss was named outstanding soloist in the unisex division.

Center Grove High School’s varsity mixed choir, Sound System, was named first runner-up in its division and earned an award for best visual.

All of the school’s choirs will perform at 7 p.m. May 14 during the groups’ Spring Spectacular Show at the high school.
