John Noone

INDIANAPOLIS

John Thomas “Tom” Noone, 80, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015.

He was born to the late D. Joseph and Helen M. (McGinty) Noone and preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen L. (Sanders) Noone, and siblings, Maxine Noone, Joy Shaedel, Helen Gasper, Dennis Noone, Mary Anne Grande and Vincentia Sanders.

John was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1952, and married his high school sweetheart, Helen, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Feb. 11, 1956.

John was a caring son and brother; devoted husband; loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather; and committed social servant.

He retired as a lieutenant after 45 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department, Local 416. John was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and IFD Emerald Society, committee member of the Indy Irish Fest, and awarded the Irish Fest Honorary Chair in 2010. He participated in and won medals for weightlifting at several World Police and Fire Games and was co-commissioner of the Muster at the 2001 games conducted in Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and active volunteer with the Indianapolis Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

John was known for his quick wit and love of practical jokes, both of which were soon followed by a wink and his signature smile with “that Irish twinkle.” But he will be most remembered for his selfless devotion and service to others in need.

John is survived by his children, Timothy Noone (Linda), Denise Wood (John), Kevin Noone (Jane), Thomas Noone (Susan), Daniel Noone (Choung), Joseph Noone (Josie), Paul Noone and Kathleen Mickel (Rich); siblings, Betty Hoffman, Colette Philhower, Kay Woods, Francis Noone, Stephen Noone and JoEllen Eckstein; 20 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Family and friends will gather from 2 to 8 p.m. today with Rosary Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., in Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A brief prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1530 S. Union St., Indianapolis. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
