Cossie Dean “Woodie” Arthur

Cossie Dean “Woodie” Arthur, 86, of Greenwood, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

He was born on July 16, 1928, in Pulaski County, Kentucky.

After serving in the U.S. Army where he learned the construction trade, Woodie worked as a salesman for the Greenwood Lumber Co. until it closed in 1970, at which time he went into business as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Indianapolis and a big fan of University of Kentucky men’s basketball.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dica Arthur Hargis; son, Connie Ray Taylor; brothers, Rayford Arthur, Carl Arthur, Roscoe Hargis, and Lonnie (J.D.) Parkey; sisters, Norma Arthur, Hazel Hargis Jones and Emma Jean Parkey Poindexter; and nephews, Lee Dale Arthur and Ricky Poindexter.

He is survived by nieces, Margie Arthur Southwood of Indianapolis, Lana Arthur Wegeng of Urbana, Illinois, and Joanne Parkey Snell of Somerset, Kentucky. He is also survived by nephews, Alan Arthur of Wildomar, California; Fred Jones of Smyrna, Tennessee; and Michael Poindexter and Tony Parkey, both of Franklin.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Trinity Southern Baptist Church, 375 E. Southport Road in Indianapolis. Funeral services will be conducted immediately after visitation with burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
