MARTINSVILLE
Bernice M. (Barger) Irving, 83, Martinsville, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at The Waters of Martinsville.
She was born on Friday, July 10, 1931, in Johnson County to the late Nolan Barger Sr. and Leatha (Betts) Barger.
Bernice was a 1950 graduate of Nineveh High School. She then went on to become a qualified medical assistant at the Methodist Home in Franklin for 32 years before her retirement in 1995.
She was also a faithful member of Grace Methodist Church in Franklin for many years.
She is survived by her son, Russell Irving and wife Barbara of Franklin; daughters, Theresa Gregory of Morgantown, Cathy McClanahan and husband Michael of Martinsville, and Cindy Thompson of Martinsville; siblings, Robert Barger and Thana Carlisle both of Franklin; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Along with her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Irving, whom she married on June 25, 1950, and he passed on Jan. 26, 2012; brothers, Nolan Barger Jr., Paul Ireland and Eugene Barger; sisters, Patty Comoso and Marjorie Witt.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Costin Funeral Chapel with Pastor Andy Kinsey officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Costin Funeral Chapel and on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
