Tad Heminger

FRANKLIN

Tad Heminger, 70, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Brown County.

Tad was born on Aug. 4, 1944, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to LeRoy and Helen Beatrice (Deckard) Heminger.

He married Jean (Hettich) Heminger on Aug. 21, 1965. She survives in Franklin.

Other survivors include their children, Kent Heminger, Kurt (Jenny) Heminger, Kyle (Valdavia) Heminger and Kelly Jean (Sonny) Glidden; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Ann (John) Allen; one brother, Noel (Ruth) Heminger; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a 1962 graduate of Franklin Community High School, where he was a four-sport athlete, and a 1966 graduate of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, where he excelled in football and baseball.

He was an Eagle Scout.

Tad was an IHSAA official.

Tad was employed with Business Men’s Assurance in Kansas City, Missouri, for more than 40 years.

He owned and operated Heminger’s Yule Pic Family Christmas Tree Farm.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin.

He was a Mason and was a member of Union Village Masonic Lodge No. 545, F&AM, in Providence, and later a member of DeVol Masonic Lodge at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.

Tad was very active in the community. He was a member of the Chordlighters Barbershop Chorus and Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many family vacations in Canada and Florida. He enjoyed training his sporting dogs.

The Revs. Homer Ford and Charles Stanley will conduct a celebration of Tad’s life at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Franklin, 201 E. Jefferson St., Franklin. Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Monday at the church. Private family burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 190 of Nashville, Boy Scout Troop 228 in Franklin and Girls Inc. of Franklin, 200 E. Madison St., Franklin, IN 46131.
