Martha L. “Marty” Chitwood, 90, a longtime Greenwood resident, passed away March 4, 2015, at Aspen Trace in Greenwood.
She was born Jan. 21, 1925, in New Jersey.
She was a member of Greenwood Christian Church, where she had taught Sunday school.
She was a member of the American Theater Organ Society and the Indianapolis Rose Society.
She had been a volunteer at Riley Hospital for Children, was a tutor at Westwood Elementary School in Greenwood, a crime watch coordinator and a board member of the Retired Indiana Public Employees Association.
She had served as clerk-treasurer for the city of Greenwood and was a Johnson County Republican precinct committeewoman for 30 years.
She had received the Distinguished Hoosier Award. She also was a member of the Johnson County Republican Women’s Club and was a member of the Johnson County Young Republicans Hall of Fame.
She also was a secretary for Isom Elementary School in Greenwood for 10 years and worked for the Indiana Department of Revenue.
Survivors include her son, Robb Chitwood (Stormy) of Fishers; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Lou Rushing of Ontario, Canada.
The Rev. Shan Rutherford and Rev. Matt Geibler will conduct a celebration of life service at noon Saturday at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
