Center Grove choirs claim honors

Show choirs at Center Grove finished their undefeated season at Shelbyville High School.

The Debtones, the women’s choir, won grand champion performance. Junior Greta Andersen was named outstanding performer, and sophomore Hannah Fleming was named best soloist. The unisex group, Sound System, also won best tech crew, best choreography and best vocals, according to a news release.

They were was named grand champion in the mixed division. The group also won awards for best choreography and best vocals for the large mixed division. Sound System also was awarded best costumes overall.

Junior Katie Swaney was named outstanding performer and best female soloist and was the overall winner of the solo competition.

Center Grove’s junior varsity mixed choir, Surround Sound, and Accents, the junior varsity women’s choir, also competed. Junior Nic Nightengale was named outstanding performer for Surround Sound, and freshman Sarah Stockman was named outstanding performer for Accents.

Senior Maria Neathery placed fourth in the solo competition.
