Emma Edith (Sisson) Butler, 85, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Brown County.

Emma was born in Brown County on Dec. 26, 1929, to her parents, the late Virgil and Nellie (Chittwood) Sisson.

She was a 1948 graduate of Helmsburg High School and retired in 1994 from Preston Safeway Supermarket in Indianapolis after 35 years of service.

Emma enjoyed trying her luck at the casino, was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, scrapbooking and spending time with her family.

Emma is survived by her loving children, John (Ann) Butler of Southport, North Carolina, Charles Butler of Franklin, Ronald (Nancy) Butler of Shelbyville and James Butler of Mustang, Oklahoma. She will be remembered by her siblings, Marjorie Collett of Brunswick, Georgia, Mary Frownfelter of Buchanan, Tennessee, Helen Underwood and Thurl Sisson, both of Martinsville, Marolyn Kirts of Columbus, Becky Scrougham, Chelsea, Lloyd and Lester Sisson, all of Brown County, and Robert Sisson of Clifford; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Alvin and Harry Sisson, Catherine Sisson, Phyllis O’Quinn, Virginia Mathis, Carolyn Mathis and an infant sister, Thelma Jean Sisson.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Meredith–Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Brown County.
