James Robert Oliver Sr.

NEW WHITELAND

James Robert Oliver Sr., 81, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, in Franklin. He was a resident of New Whiteland.

James was born March 17, 1933, in Beech Grove to Robert Joseph and Laura Marie (Gregory) Oliver.

He married Wanda Long on Feb. 23, 1952, in Beech Grove; they were married for 63 years.

James was employed with Western Electric until retiring as a supervisor after 34 years of service.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a fan of the Indiana Pacers, Indiana University basketball and Indianapolis Colts. He was a member of Bell Conservation Club, Capital City Conservation Club and the Jaycees for many years.

James is survived by his wife, Wanda Oliver of New Whiteland; four children, John Oliver of Whiteland, Joe (Janet) Oliver of Franklin, Jim (Pamela) Oliver of New Whiteland and Jerry (Julie) Oliver of New Castle; a sister, Dorothy Black of Mooresville; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joann Oliver.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
