Roncalli student earns firefighter scholarship

A Roncalli High School junior has earned a scholarship meant to honor firefighters.

Justin Brown received the $750 prize that honors Pvt. John Lorenzano. Lorenzano died responding to a fire in 1992.

Roncalli students who have a firefighter for a parent are asked to write an essay to be eligible to receive the award.

Roncalli announces students of the month

Roncalli High School has announced their January students of the month.

They are:

English, Demarcus Smith; family and consumer science, Steven Ramsey; industrial technology, Matt Payne; science, Samuel Nathan; religious studies, Logan Schott; health and physical education, Grace Lawrie; fine arts, Nicky Marino; business and technology, Lauren Jones; world languages, Adrian Daves; guidance, Stephanie Spista; S.T.A.R.S. Program, Tam Yaung; math, Riley Marshall; social studies, Oscar Thomas.

Franklin kindergarten signup opens in April

Kindergarten registration will be in April for Franklin families.

Parents of upcoming kindergarten students are invited to register their children from 4 to 7 p.m. April 7 at each elementary school in Franklin schools.

Packets with more information will be mailed in March.

Agriculture education focus of luncheon

Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and the Indiana FFA hosted “Go for Launch,” an agricultural education program informational luncheon at the Indiana FFA Center in Trafalgar.

The luncheon was open to principals, superintendents and school leaders. They talked about how they could implement a STEM-based, agricultural program for their students.

District’s schools plan kindergarten registration

Kindergarten registration for Center Grove students has been set. Registration will be from 6 to 7 p.m. April 14 at all elementary schools in the district.

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 1.

Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency. Adults wanting to volunteer with the school should bring their driver’s license.
