Charles Sears

NEW WHITELAND

Charles “Charlie” David Sears of New Whiteland passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at the age of 81.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elfriede. He is also survived by his six children, Jane Sears, Ken (Cindi) Sears, William (Shelly) Sears, Richard (Carrie) Sears, Chris (Jennifer) Sears, and Rob (Jenny) Sears. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He entered the U.S. Army after high school and learned radio and electronics, which formed the basis of his lifelong career. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict where he met and married Elfriede.

Charles was a broadcast engineer for WTTV 4 for more than 50 years, and worked for many other TV and radio stations, including the one at Franklin College. He was a member of The Society of Broadcast Engineers, ARRL, and several other professional and recreational radio and computer clubs and societies.

He was a member of the New Whiteland Christian Church for many years, and known most recently as Christ’s Church.

A service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, with visitation from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Entombment will be at The Gardens at Olive Branch.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ’s Church, 6001 N. U.S. 31 Suite 6, New Whiteland, IN 46184.
