I-69 subject of upcoming session

The state will host a public information meeting to discuss what’s coming with the Interstate 69 project.

Engineers are starting the second phase of an environmental study, which will include determining the best route for Section 6, the last leg of the interstate between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

The initial plans developed about 10 years ago suggested the state should upgrade State Road 37 to become the new limited-access interstate.

If that route is selected, the state would close most roads crossing the highway and build a few interchanges. Interchanges originally had been proposed at County Road 144, Smith Valley Road and County Line Road but have not been decided yet.

The meeting will be at Center Grove High School, 2717 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for an open house about the project. A presentation and question-and-answer session with state officials will begin at 6:30 p.m.
