George A. Sears

FRANKLIN

George A. Sears Jr., 89, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, in Franklin.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1925, in Casey, Illinois, to George A. Sears Sr. and Flora (Osmon) Sears.

He married Martha Louise (Meyer) Sears on March 26, 1946.

George is survived by son, Randy, and wife Brenda Sears of Morgantown; granddaughter, Jennifer, and husband Luke Skobel of Morgantown and grandson, Jon, and wife Brittany Sears of Nineveh; great-grandchildren, Reese and Lane Sears and Kaden, Kiana and Keely Skobel.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Martha; son, Brad Sears; and several brothers and sisters.

He attended school in Illinois and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was involved in seven major island invasions in the South Pacific, including Tarawa. He was on the USS Ormsby Troop Transport.

George was a tool and die maker.

He was a member of the Church of the Lakes. He was a member of Prospect Masonic Lodge No. 714, F&AM in Indianapolis and the American Legion Post No. 264.

A celebration of George’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service to be conducted by the Prospect Masonic Lodge No. 714. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
