Ronald Jenkins

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA

Ronald D. “Chuck” Jenkins, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.

Ron is survived by his son, Kyle (Janet), grandsons Travis, Derek and Shane of Pittsburgh; brother, Steve Jenkins (Barbara); sisters, Vickie Thornburg (Bill), Pamela Cliburn (Buddy), Theresa Murphy (Jim), and Terri Oswalt (Rick); and his many nieces and nephews, all of the Indianapolis area.

He is also remembered with fondness by close friends and many acquaintances.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Nell Hodge; stepfather, Norman Hodge; and sisters, Jerri Lynn White and Jill Collins.

Ron served honorably in the Navy. He was a proud graduate and supporter of the Butler University Bulldogs. He moved to Florida in 1976 and resided in Jacksonville, where he was employed in the floor covering industry. As a lover of politics, he became an involved activist and served as an elected member of the Jacksonville City Council from 1986 to 1991. Ron spent many years as a youth baseball coach and Adopt-a-Grandparent mentor and participated in multiple organizations. In his later years, he was a substitute teacher and civic volunteer.

Graveside interment will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood, and then a remembrance service will follow in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m.
