Ruth Joan Kalugyer

RICHMOND

Ruth Joan Kalugyer, 85, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Reid Hospital in Richard.

Born Feb. 21, 1929, in Union County, to Wayne C. and Daisy Powell Lake, Ruth lived most of her life in Richmond.

She was a 1947 graduate of Alquina High School and graduated from Indiana Beauty College, where she became a licensed hairdresser. Ruth owned and operated The Nook Beauty Salon for 30 years and was the nutrition director for Area 9 Agency on Aging for 30 years.

She was a member of the Richmond Senior Community Center, the Richmond Fraternal Order of Eagles and Druids Lodge.

Ruth enjoyed square dancing, sports and working on the family farm. She was never happier than when she had her whole family together.

Survivors include her children, Sherry Brewer of St. Petersburg, Florida, John W. (Marjorie) Kalugyer of Greenwood, Mark (Kirsten) of Liberty Township, Ohio and Donald (Adriene) Kalugyer of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Brewer of St. Petersburg, Florida, Candace Kalugyer of Dallas, Chance (Nickia) Kalugyer of Pendleton, Alexis Kalugyer of Indianapolis, Austin Kalugyer, Jacob Kalugyer and Zachary Kalugyer, all of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Rachel Kalugyer and Malcolm Kalugyer, both of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Gwenevere, Soren and Emma Kalugyer; brother, Norman (Betty) Lake of Union County; three nephews, Dennis, Fuzzy and Richard Lake, one niece, Cynthia Hancock; cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kalugyer Jr.; parents; and brother, Donald W. Lake.

Visitation for Ruth Joan Kalugyer will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. 10th St., Richmond. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Dunlapsville Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
