Naaman Smith

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.

Naaman Bryan Smith of Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the age of 65.

Naaman was born in Bloomington on Sept. 1, 1949, the son of H. Carl and Barbara A. (Gillaspy) Smith. Naaman was married to Cheryl L. Hanson on the IU Campus in April 1982; she survives him. He was in graphic arts for 48 years and an avid golfer. Naaman was the family patriarch, also known as “The Family Anchor.”

He was preceded in death by his father, H. Carl “Smitty” Smith.

Naaman is survived by his wife, Cheryl Smith of Bonita Springs, Florida; mother, Barbara Smith of Ellettsville; daughters, Samara Smith (Jordan Keesling) of Pendelton and Ragan Smith (James Flannery) of Greensburg; son-in-law, Taylor Jay Jacobs, III of Virginia; grandchildren, Taylor B. Jacobs, IV, Morgan Jacobs, Dylan Mann, Kiara and Maycee Flannery; brothers, Kruth B. Smith of Ellettsville, Mendel G. Smith (Shelly) of Zionsville and Tylin J. Smith (Marlene Downer) of Naples; one godchild, Garrett Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with Pastor Brian Butler officiating. Inurnment is to follow at a later date. Friends may call upon the family at at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
