Thelma A. Hartsell

FRANKLIN

Thelma A. Rhude Walker Hartsell was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Dixon, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015. She was a resident of Franklin.

Her parents were Joseph A. and Ella (Pahl) Rhude. She married Sgt. Raymond Dale Walker and had two sons. Raymond was killed in World War II on July 7, 1945. She married Maj. Charles F. Hartsell in 1952.

She also was preceded in death by three sons, William Hartsell, Jerry Walker and Larry Walker; five sisters, Berenette Allen, Gloria Timmins, Eunice Fraker, Myrna Lewis and Patricia Childers; and one brother, Joseph A. Rhude II.

She is survived by three sisters, Jeannie Lehman, Phyllis Karner and Joan Bearden; three grandchildren, Mark Walker, Annette (Jeremy) Snyder and Aaron D. (Alix) Walker; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, Kierstin and Kensley; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Walker.

She was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary 205 in Franklin. She graduated from Trafalgar High School, Indiana Business College in Columbus and Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. 

She worked at Arvin Industries during World War II and was employed at Post Ordnance, Camp Atterbury. She also worked at Franklin College and Franklin Bank & Trust Co. and at the Dollar General Store.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
