Police investigate courthouse bomb scare

Police are investigating a bomb threat to the Johnson County Courthouse that closed downtown Franklin streets and evacuated people nearby Saturday.

Police reported a man called 911 at 4:45 p.m. and said a bomb would go off in the courthouse in 10 minutes and hung up. Police shut down streets around the courthouse and evacuated people nearby. Officers then searched the courthouse and found nothing suspicious, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

At 5:18 p.m., the same person allegedly called again, asking if the courthouse was cleared and said the bomb would go off in 10 minutes. The dispatch center received two more calls from the same caller around 5:45 p.m., the report said.

Police were able to trace the phone number and the area the call was coming from, based on the cellphone tower it used, the report said.

Police are investigating, and no one had been arrested by Sunday afternoon.
