Janet Sue “Susie” Townsend, 69, lifelong resident of Franklin, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at the Franklin United Methodist Community surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 29, 1945, in Franklin to Alvin “Bud” Anderson and Genevieve (Campbell) Anderson. She married Stanley G. Townsend on Sept. 8, 1963, at First Baptist Church in Franklin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2008.

She was a 1963 graduate of Franklin Community High School. She worked for Farmers Trust, later becoming Franklin Bank and Trust, for many years. She had worked for the Johnson County Auditor’s Office since 1992. She also farmed alongside her husband, Stanley G. Townsend, in the Franklin area. She was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin, where she had served as an elder and church board member and started the Christmas Tea at the church.

She was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau, Johnson County Beef Cattle Association and the Johnson County 4-H and Agricultural Fair Association. She was a 4-H leader for the Merry Mixers 4-H Club in Franklin. She assisted the annual Johnson County 4-H Livestock auction and assisted in Scott Hall at the fair.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Susie was especially devoted to her faith.

Survivors include her three daughters, Suzanne McKinney (John) of Waukee, Iowa, Amy Wolter (John) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jennifer Townsend (Jake Vandivier) of Franklin; five grandchildren, John Andrew McKinney, Jacob McKinney, Christopher Wolter, Nicole Wolter and Evan Wolter; and two brothers, Gary Anderson (Paula) of Indianapolis and Tom Anderson (Cheryle) of Columbus. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; a brother, David Lee Anderson; and a sister, Anita Marie Cisco in 1999.

A service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Tabernacle Christian Church, 198 N. Water St. in Franklin. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
