Local jobless rate declines in November

Fewer workers were unemployed in Johnson County last month compared with a year ago, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

A total of 3,967 residents, about 5.1 percent of the workforce, were unemployed in November, compared with 4,236 unemployed workers in November 2013, or about 6 percent. The rate was 6.7 percent in November 2012.

Johnson County ranked 68th out of the state’s 92 counties in unemployment. The statewide jobless figure was at 5.8 percent.

Most central Indiana counties are experiencing lower unemployment rates than the statewide figure, except for Madison County at 6.6 percent and Marion County at 5.9 percent.

The number of Hoosiers working last month increased by more than 25,000 compared to a year earlier, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
