College update – December 20

Kyle Wuest, an Edinburgh graduate, scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Elmhurst men’s basketball team (7-1) to a 98-93 overtime win against Dubuque.

The junior converted 10 of 16 shots from the field, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range, and was 5 of 6 from the free-throw line, including two free throws with nine seconds to play that tied the game at 79-all, sending it to overtime.

In the extra period, Wuest hit a 3-point shot with the score tied at 84-all, giving Elmhurst a lead it never relinquished.

Whiteland

Competing at the Friday Night Track and Field special at the University of Indianapolis, the Greyhounds’ Farin Hickman was first of 18 in the shot put (44-5) and second of 20 in the weight throw (53-7). Indianapolis’ Robbie Geis was 14th of 24 in the men’s 200-meter dash (24.25) and 17th of 23 (7.61) in the 60-meter dash.

Indiana State’s Danielle Muse was 11th of 13 in the mile race (5:29.82) at the Hoosier Indoor Track and Field Open at Indiana University.

Andrea Mize scored two points (1 for 2) and had one rebound in five minutes in 9-1 Indiana’s 80-37 basketball win

against IPFW.

The IU-Southeast women’s basketball team (8-4) defeated Indiana Wesleyan 70-62 and lost 76-73 to Union in overtime. Michaela Harris had five points (2 for 3, 1 for 1, 0 for 0), three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in 22 minutes in the win and seven points (2 for 5, 3 for 3), three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 39 minutes in the loss.

The Illinois College women defeated Knox and Eureka in a three-team meet. Illinois’ Jordyn Perry was eighth of 10 in the 100 freestyle (1:21.88), fourth of five in the 200 freestyle (2:37.09) and fourth of four in the 100 backstroke (1:23.17).

Indian Creek

Indiana State sprinter Katie Wise won the 60-meter dash (7.40) in a field of 30 sprinters at the Hoosier Track and Field Open.

The Northern Illinois

basketball team (2-5) lost

47-44 to Missouri. Ally Lehman had three points (1 for 11, 1 for 5, 0 for 0), two assists, two steals and a team-high six rebounds in

31 minutes.

The Regis basketball team

(4-2, 0-2) lost 60-56 to Colorado State-Pueblo and defeated UC-Colorado Springs 92-89. Erica Von Stein had six points (2 for 4, 2 for 4, 0 for 0), three rebounds and one steal in the loss and seven points (1 for 4, 1 for 4, 4 for 4), two rebounds and a team-high six assists in the win.

Franklin

The St. Mary-of-the-Woods basketball team (3-6) lost 101-100 in overtime to MacMurray and

103-81 to Greenville. Shelby Parmer led the Pomeroys in scoring with 28 points (9 for 20, 2 for 5, 8 for 13) and had five rebounds, four assists and a team-high 10 steals in 32 minutes against MacMurray. She had 13 points (6 for 14, 0 for 4, 1 for 2), five rebounds, six assists and six steals in 27 minutes against Greenville. Tara Parmer had five points (2 for 7, 1 for 4, 0 for 0), six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 24 minutes against MacMurray and two points (1 for 5,

0 for 4), two rebounds and two steals against Greenville.

Greenwood

The Danville Area Community College basketball team (10-3) defeated Robert Morris-Peoria

77-45. Katie Ratliff had 14 points (5 for 6, 4 for 5, 0 for 0), one rebound and one assist in 17 minutes. She averages a team-high 13.5 points per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field,

43 percent from 3-point range and 69 percent on free throws.

Nichole Thompson had six points (1 for 6, 4 for 4), seven rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes for the Franklin women’s basketball team (5-1, 3-0) in a 68-56 win against Mount St. Joseph.

The Hanover men’s basketball team (5-2, 3-0) defeated Earlham 79-46, and Jaren Hornbeak had two points (1 for 5), two assists and one steal in 16 minutes.

Indianapolis’ Kailey Evans won the long jump in a field of 14 (17-6½) and was 18th of 35 (27.67) in the 200-meter dash at the Friday Night Indoor Track and Field Special at Indianapolis.

Center Grove

Indianapolis’ Casey Wendorff was 10th of 13 in the men’s 5,000 meters (16:45.71), and Marian’s Rachel Dever was first of two in the women’s 1,000 meters (3:21.57).

Purdue’s Justin Veteto was 11th of 20 in the 60-meter hurdles (8.39), and Indiana pole vaulter Sydney Clute was 25th of 30 in the 60-meter dash at the Hoosier Indoor Track and Field Open.

Army’s Alex Aukerman saw action in the 4-8 Cadets’ 17-10 football loss to Navy.

Anderson’s Shelby Shaffer had 10 points (4 for 11, 0 for 4, 2 for 2), seven assists, two rebounds and three steals in the 1-5, 0-2 Ravens’ 82-53 basketball loss to Bluffton.

Madi Kolthoff had eight points (3 for 6, 2 for 5, 0 for 0), two rebounds and one assist in 13 minutes for the Franklin women’s basketball team (5-1, 3-0) in a 68-56 defeat of Mount St. Joseph.

Kelcey Daugherty had one rebound in 16 minutes for the Manchester basketball team (3-3, 1-2) in a 52-44 loss to Rose-Hulman.

Melody Doss had 16 points (6 for 13, 4 for 10, 0 for 0), three steals, one blocked shot and a team-high 11 rebounds for the Northern Kentucky basketball team (5-5) in a 77-68 defeat of Marquette.

The Oberlin basketball team (4-5, 1-2) defeated Wooster 90-55 and lost 77-48 to DePauw. Katie Lucaites had four points (2 for 2), one rebound and three assists in 11 minutes in the win and two points (1 for 3), three rebounds and one assist in 14 minutes in the loss.

The Trine basketball team

(6-2) defeated Heidelberg 68-61 and lost 97-50 to Calvin. Nikky Moan had 11 points (5 for 10, 0 for 1, 1 for 1), one assist and a team-high

10 rebounds in 31 minutes in the win and two points (1 for 5), two rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes in the loss.

The Wittenberg women’s basketball team (6-3, 1-1) lost 67-58 to Earlham and won 64-56 against Denison. Bobbie Clayton had two points (1 for 4) and one rebound in three minutes in the loss and two points (0 for 3, 0 for 1, 2 for 2) and two rebounds in 13 minutes in the win.

Joe Reed had 15 points (5 for 7, 5 for 5), one rebound and one assist in 21 minutes for the IPFW basketball team (6-3) in a 91-67 win against Michigan-Dearborn.

Jonny Marlin had seven points (3 for 7, 1 for 5, 0 for 0), four rebounds, five assists and two steals in 28 minutes in 13-0 Indiana Wesleyan’s 73-53 defeat of Olivet. The Wildcats, playing in San Juan, Puerto Rico, defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Pedrias, a Division II school, 82-62; and the junior had a team-high 11 assists.

Tennessee-Chattanooga

wrestler Sean Mappes lost 11-0 at 184 pounds in an 18-17 loss to North Carolina.
