Joan L. Ruhana

Joan L. Ruhana, 83, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014.

She was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Detroit to Joseph and Mary (Sanecki) Gancarz. She graduated from Sweetest Heart of Mary School in Detroit with the class of 1949.

She worked for seven years at A&P in the advertising and marketing division.

She was an avid reader of the Bible and many other religious printings.

Joan was a member of Chi Kappa Chi and Nativity Pinochle Card Club.

She loved to watch her family when they played sports. She loved to play card and board games and spend time with her loved ones.

Joan married Anthony “Tony” Ruhana on Sept. 26, 1953, in Detroit; and he survives her, along with her sons, Michael (Sandy), David (Mary) and Mark (Susan) Ruhana; daughters, Karen (Paul) Minite and Julie Ruhana; brother, Franciscan Brother Anthony Gancarz; sister-in-law, Eleanor Gancarz; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
