Local hospital group earns performance award

Franciscan St. Francis Health has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2014.

The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to high care standards for heart attack patients.

To receive the designation, the hospital consistently followed treatment guidelines and met a performance standard of 90 percent in specific areas for treatment of patients.

Math, science added to martial arts lessons

Greenwood-based Pilsung ATA Martial Arts is giving local kids a new opportunity to learn physical fitness and science, technology, engineering and math lessons at the same time.

Studio co-owner Brian Myers has been trained by master instructors from the American Taekwondo Association and Dignity Kids Inc., a national nonprofit organization focused on STEM education, to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics educational opportunities to local public and private schools in a new way.

Integrating physical education, martial arts and STEM topics in the Universal Principals of Sport Science curriculum, martial arts instructors can teach K-12 student interested in STEM fields.

Myers is qualified to teach this type of integrated program as both a seasoned martial arts instructor and as a mechanical engineer with 20 years of engineering industry experience. The program is aimed at reversing the trend of outsourcing STEM field jobs through education and mentoring.

MainSource Bank opens branch on Emerson Avenue

MainSource Bank recently opened a branch at 8740 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis.

The new banking center features MainSource Access, an interactive video teller technology. This branch also has a more open layout and floor plan.

In addition, the banking center features a 650-square-foot community room for meetings or events. Residents and businesses are encouraged to contact the Emerson banking center to reserve the MainSource Bank Community Room.

MainSource Bank is a subsidiary of MainSource Financial Group Inc., which is headquartered in Greensburg.

Local contestant earns honor at national pageant

Center Grove High School graduate Heather Cornell, a freshman at Purdue University, recently competed in the state and national levels of the National American Miss pageant.

She scored in the top model and photogenic categories locally before traveling to Anaheim, California, for the national pageant during the week of Thanksgiving.

Cornell is studying apparel design and technology and retail management. She enjoys music, tennis and dance and is a church volunteer. She was awarded the Spirit of America award for a positive attitude and being helpful to other contestants at the state pageant, according to a news release.

Renamed realty agency opens Franklin office

Real estate company Keller Williams has opened an office in Franklin called Keller Williams Hometown. The office was formerly known as Hometown Insurance and Real Estate.

Greg Leugers is the managing broker. Other real estate brokers at the office include John Curry, Jessy Casey, Dennis Doughety, Brooke Huffman, Donna Lutes, Shelly Linton, Susan Odom, Denise Sinn-Ott, Jerry Ott, Lori Ramirez and Deena Wilham.

Franciscan St. Francis Health names marketing personnel Amey Lupinsky has been named marketing manager for Franciscan St. Francis Health. A longtime member of the hospital’s marketing and community relations department, she manages marketing plans and programs for several service lines, including palliative care, hospice, behavioral health, Franciscan Insurance Services, Senior Promise and Franciscan Alliance St, Francis Health Foundation. An Indianapolis resident, Lupinsky previously served as a marketing specialist and office manager. She is an honors graduate of Marian University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and management. She is a member of the International Association of Business Communications, Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and the Indiana Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations Society. Lupinsky serves on the board of directors and in other capacities for The Social of Greenwood, Perry Senior Services and Northern Light Sled Dog Rescue. Susie Betulius Bixler has been named marketing director for Franciscan Physician Network and Physician Outreach at Franciscan St. Francis Health. In that role, she will develop, manage and implement marketing for Franciscan Physician Network-Central Indiana Region, which includes all physicians and advanced practice providers at more than 80 locations. An Indianapolis resident, Bixler also manages marketing initiatives for Franciscan Immediate Care centers and After-Hours Clinic in Mooresville. Additionally, she oversees the call-center function and activity for the hospital and physician outreach services. Bixler has been affiliated with Franciscan St. Francis for 28 years and has held several positions, including marketing and community relations manager. She has been active on the Franciscan Alliance corporate marketing leadership team. A graduate of Purdue University, she also represented Franciscan St. Francis Health on the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 11 years and has served as president. Bixler currently serves on the board of directors for the Johnson County Community Foundation.
