Police arrest 1 on drug charges

A Whiteland man was arrested after police found him smoking marijuana when they went to his home with a warrant for someone else.

William Schoentrup, 32, 680 Maplecrest Drive, Whiteland, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, dealing marijuana, resisting an officer, obstructing justice and possession of a controlled substance.

Whiteland police went to Schoentrup’s home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to serve a warrant, and could smell burning marijuana when they got to the front door. Schoentrup answered the door and told police the person they were looking for wasn’t there. When officers told Schoentrup they were coming inside, Schoentrup tried to slam the door and lock the police out, a Whiteland Police Department report said.

Police were able to get inside and found 10 grams of marijuana, seven glass smoking pipes, scales, grinders and other items. Police also found one prescription pill and several thousand dollars in cash, the report said.

Schoentrup was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $6,200 bond.
