Lane closures planned at I-65 interchange site

State workers will close lanes on Interstate 65 at night starting today to prepare for work on interchange at Worthsville Road.

Workers will temporarily close the left lanes from about one mile south of Main Street in Greenwood to one mile north of Whiteland to add temporary, widened lanes in the median and put up concrete barriers. The closures will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. today, Friday and Monday as needed.

Crews are preparing to begin demolishing the Worthsville Road overpass in December. Once the current overpass is torn down, workers will begin building the new overpass by doing some digging and dirt work before constructing the new 246-foot bridge.

In the spring, workers will begin the rest of the work to build the $16 million diverging diamond interchange at Worthsville Road. E&B Paving and Gradex, the companies that were hired for construction, should have the entire project completed by the end of next year.
